also in general, if a work of fiction uses a thing that started off innocent, then made it evil, then that's also mascot horror, so things like Pennywise and Chucky count, what doesn't count is things like slenderman, because slenderman was never corrupted in universe, it was always like that.

I'd say Mascot Horror is a sub-category of indie horror usually characterized by the use of mascots being made hostile toward the player in some way (so hello neighbor technically doesn't count.) and the idea of said mascots belonging to a company whose hubris ruined everything.
