When my partner or I get down because of all the hate and despair we feel, either of us will remind each other this line. “We have always been here and always will be.” We are not going away! Homosexual behavior is well documented throughout nature and we are not separate.

I can only imagine the hardships endured by many of my great-great-uncles and beyond, as I’ve heard stories of those who remained unmarried and had close friendships with a male friend or who married much later in life.

Brokeback Mountain was a poignant movie for me. Not only did it say I am here and a part of our collective history, but it showed the devastation and despair that defines many of our community, past and present.

Get well. I got Covid days before Christmas in 2023. We were having Christmas at our house with a large gathering and had to cancel everything!
