And let's face it, every one of us has to take someone else's word for it as to when we were born. None of us remembers. We trust in the accuracy of our systems, and in the memory of our families. Not everyone in the world has the luxury of either.

And it's not about whether or not they arrive with documents, either. In many parts of the world, birth registration is haphazard at best; births may be recorded long afterward or not at all. And since "birthdays" as we know it aren't a thing everywhere, even recorded dates can be inaccurate.
