This was bouncing around in gusty wind, between Catsear flowers and stopped for a couple of minutes on the Red Clover. They are much more common on the coastal plain but maybe this one was blown a little further North to us.

I love the cathedral-like columns and "stained glass" of this local wood at this time of year.

I've got the book too and think of it every time I see a plant taking advantage of a man-made niche.

... and they don't always look pretty at first glance. This area of rough looking grassland has many inconspicuous wild flowers and is alive with butterflies.

Fortunately we have a lot of birds gobbling the ants up :-)

I really enjoyed finding it. I have never seen one before.

I also found it in Uckfield, Sussex - also where the grass had been dug up for a pipe or cable.

I found a big one and a few 1cm babies on our Purple Toadflax in our Sussex garden.

I've finally managed to settle down to look at it, work being the curse of the botanising classes!
