Journey of the Kaiju Triplets Pt. 6- Second Varnish. Wow we’ve come so far! After doing some final touch-ups, and giving Todzilla some bone-spikes, the boys are almost done. Just one more matte varnish, and they’ll be ready to come off the platforms. Final pictures tomorrow!

Journey of the Kaiju Triplets Part 5- Color Customization. Using a technique called “Stippling”, we’re able to change the base color of Steve’s fins altogether. Then we can Drybrush them to add contrasting depth. Now he’s got crystals!

Journey of the Kaiju Triplets Pt. 4- Second Drybrush. We take lighter color tones and do a second drybrush over more prominently lit areas (knees, head ridges, shoulders). This adds more depth and vibrancy than before. But there’s still more to do! After all, Steve’s spikes look a bit plain…

Journey of the Kaiju Triplets Pt. 3- First Drybrush. Finally some color! As you can see, our first pass alone draws out a lot of detail, and adds vibrancy. The next step, which we’ll show tomorrow, increases these traits even further. Stay tuned!

Journey of the Kaiju Triplets Pt. 2- Pre-Varnish. Now that the adhesives have hardened, each Kaiju is coated with a transparent, matte varnish. While it looks wet now, overnight it will dry into a form that reduces the gloss of the vinyl. Plus, it creates a surface for the paint to cling to!

Journey of the Kaiju Triplets pt. 1- The platform. The first thing we do to any Kaiju we paint is attach them to a decently large painting platform. This is so we can hold and manipulate the figure, without putting our hands on the painted area. Next step posted tomorrow!
