I understand and am with you, but the problem is, there just aren’t a lot of Thanksgiving-oriented musical theatre songs. The public is crying out for SOMETHING.

The theater I saw it in was almost full, and no one sang. That made me happy. (There wasn't a lot of laughter, either, for what that's worth.)

I agree with all this, but the part that bothered me more was when Maria Friedman referred to the original in her speech as a “masterpiece.”

Yes, Ms. Friedman, but that’s not the version you’re doing!
