Yeah, this is why I've never bothered with Admiral and just go all the way to Fairmount

This would also provide access to one of the better vistas in the city, Admiral Viewpoint, which is only really accessible by cars or a not super fun walk along a narrow sidewalk currently.

Alaska Junction not having a library is bananas. Had to go from there to Admiral Junction last week just to return a book.

Uptown and North Downtown need a library. Eastlake needs a library. Georgetown needs a library. Madison Valley/Park needs a library. Alaska Junction needs a library. Ballard needs more than one library.

Then (and this one feels too obvious) we should build a two-way protected bike lane on the east side of Admiral all the way up to Admiral Junction
Route showing an Admiral Way bike pathway, from Harbor Ave to California. This would connect Alki trail to the Admiral Junction. The missing section that would require a ramp is shown in a dashed blue line.

It seems like an easy fix for better, safer Admiral Junction access is to create a ramp that would connect the Admiral Way bike lane to the Alki trail across Harbor Ave

The few times I've made a left there even driving had me feeling like I cheated death

Ermehrgerd you cross Admiral at that point to access the uphill?
westseattlebikeblg.bsky.social
From what I can gather, the only real option from the very bottom is to walk up the stairs just after the West Seattle bridge offramp, a non-starter for cargo bikes etc.
Aerial showing red line following route from Alki trail to Admiral Way, up a steep road and stairway to a sidewalk. Streetview showing stairway to Admiral Way with sign showing bikers should take stairs to access.

Admiral Way bikers: where do you access the uphill bike lane from?

It is utterly insane that this design was one that a DOT could legitimately put out 10 years ago; "just ride down the 200' hill with four lanes of high speed traffic, we've designated on of them 'shared' for you!"
Admiral Way reconfiguration by SDOT from 2014 showing downhill bikers using a 13 foot wide shared used lane that cars also use Street view showing admiral Way as it exist today with four lanes of high-speed traffic. A small sharrow can be seen on the road

What'd I ultimately like to see is Admiral Way's bike lanes, which currently end as you approach the California intersection (where they're needed most) be extended east all the way down the hill to the bridge
Streetview showing Admiral bike lanes beginning and ending a block before the California intersection

Set back turn pockets would also assuage any concerns about freight traffic turning here

My vision for the Admiral Junction intersection:
Step 1: Remove right turn lanes, add curb bulbs.
Step 2: Remove outside lanes on Admiral, add more curb bulbs.

“The emails and Microsoft Teams chats confirm that Parks and Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) staff continued to work on the upgrades for months after a December community meeting on the project…”

A major intersection redesign near Seward Park was ready to go to construction with a Mayor's Office review the only impediment, records show. The exchanges reveal what was happening behind the scenes as the public was kept in the dark about the upgrades.
