Can people who lost their belongings in "sweeps" of homeless encampments recover them?

Some cities have storage programs, but as one advocate says, they offer only an “illusion of compassion.”

Just a reminder, scholar friends: you don’t have to stay up until 3:00 drinking at the conference in order to be cool. If you want to, great! If you’d rather go to bed or stay out late sober, that’s great too!

I participated in a call yesterday among the nation’s homelessness scholars. Resounding theme: we’ve got to make better arguments, revamp our messaging. Resounding sentiment: oh shit.

Thoughts on the Goods Unite Us app? I like the idea of spending my money at places that will support candidates who appreciate my values, but I wonder if it's somehow damaging to us socially to separate in this way...
