Definitely a Tolkien Swiftie, but not so much a Silmarillion Swiftie despite having scraped together the money to pre-order the book as a broke college student in 1977. Bits I enjoy the heck out of, bits of it are...in need of an editor? Full of beautiful poetry though

I've only just now been listening to a podcast on pre-Civil War presidents, and the parallel was impossible to deny - their weakness and vacillation, the complete misreading of what the slaveholders wanted 😢

Yup, that whole late 19th/early 20th c. era was messy as - racism and misogyny were embedded in the formation of the union movement, for instance 😢😬

There were quite a few Māori women in the Women's Christian Temperance Union. I admit I was surprised given that one of their platforms was the abolition of moko kauae, but I think our tupuna probably kept their eyes on the prize - equal right to vote, which WCTU did support.

Retirement villages or people contemplating moving to retirement villages! About 60% of the ads in the hard copy papers are retirement village related, and I don't think that's an accident.
