I guess the thing I do want to say is this: if you are sick of the flattening of our media landscape, but not paying for media that feeds you, you are contributing to the problem. That is the reality of our time and our capitalist society. And starving the artists won’t get us out of capitalism.

Oh, and just to button this up: the Seattle Go Center had owned that building for over 20 years. Now it’s empty, and as far as I know, the Go Center still hasn’t found a new permanent home.

…to charge outrageous rent to a series of businesses that last a couple years and fail, and have the space sit empty until the next gullible person comes along, than to charge reasonable rent for the area and have a long term tenant.

There’s the remains of a former Petco across the street, and an attached retail space that has cycled through a couple lives, and they’re all just sitting empty, next to blocks FULL of occupied multi-story apartment units. As far as I can guess, it’s more profitable…

They pitch replacing it with a 20-story apartment building with a floor dedicated to the Go Center. Go Center hikes rent until the vet clinic closes down, Go Center sells the building and moves out… and the developer scraps the entire plan.

That building has sat empty for the past couple years.

I’ve lived in the same neighborhood for fourteen years and the turnover of the last four has been wild. Perfect example is the Seattle Go Center, which owned a 2-story building and rented downstairs space to a low-cost vet clinic. A developer offers to buy the building for $$$.

I came up with a fancy but fast way to do my initials, and it makes bookplates/tip-ins WAY more manageable!
