It didn't even begin to scrape the surface of how he felt. He hadn't been able to get the images out of his head; the forgotten memory of a soldier he once knew, the way his teammates looked at him and how Zeivran kept pulling away ever since they had all learned the truth. He didn't understand the truth, didn't remember it, but there was a feeling deep within his soul, some kind of ache that burned bright and whispered the truth he refused to acknowledge (you're a coward). He wanted his teammates to trust him. He wanted them to believe he was a good friend. He wanted to prove that he wasn't created to be a bad luck charm that would always fail and let people down. "We still have six minutes and we intend to make them count," Art said, voice low and nails digging into the palms of his hands to ground himself. "Now get out of our way, or we'll make you."

"Here, have a mini dessert. These work to get your mind off people, too, trust me." "That's fair." Amaya gratefully took it from him. "Hey, what if I just ate a whole tower of these?" Lunnzahn perked up. "Bet you can't eat one faster than me," he challenged, watching Amaya's face light up. This was their table now. Cricket pinched the bridge of his nose. "Okay, maybe don't do that…" Ignoring him, the two began stuffing their faces in hopes of distracting each other from the crowd, and it soon shifted from a competition to taste testing as they shared delicious desserts back and forth.

He made a show of stretching, feeling a satisfying pop in his back, and then stepped towards the temple. "Yes? No? I'll put on a show whether I win or lose, won't I?" "I—" Jamie swallowed. "I suppose so. Go ahead." "Thanks!" Zeivran gave the rest of the participants an overdramatic bow, if only to show off for the arcane screens, and then took a step towards victory. He wouldn't lose.
