June 17, 2009 CRIME String of tampon machine thefts hit MSU By Brittany Shammas A heavy flow of break-ins and thefts from feminine-hygiene dispensers across campus led MSU Police to launch an investigation. A total of six break-ins and thefts were reported to MSU Police between June 1-12, amounting to at least $7.50 in stolen change, MSU police Set. Florene McGlothian Taylor said. The incidents have targeted women's restrooms in buildings across campus, including the Chemistry Building. Human Ecology Building and the Computer Center. Thefts from feminine hygiene dispensers have been spotty in the past, she said. "I can't recall a time (when) there have been numerous ones at one time," she said. "Not Nutritional sciences senior Sheena Patel said a person who would steal from a tampon machine must be desperate or bored. "I think that if you're going to steal something, you should steal it from someplace better than a tampon machine," she said. "It's got to be bad if some. one's stealing from a machine in a bathroom." Communication junior Kiersten Anderson said she thought it was ridiculous someone would steal from feminine-hygiene machines. "I guess I think when you need something. you need something." she said. "I think that's a pretty pathetic way to get money because I can't imag ine stealing from a feminine-hygiene machine could be very lucrative. Going out and earn ing money seems to be more of an honorable and smart way of doing things." Some of the machines appeared to have been entered with an unknown tool, McGloth-ian Taylor said. She did not know if the machines, which cost about $400, would need to be replaced. Police are unsure whether one person is responsible for all of the break-ins, but the incidents remain under investigation, McGiothian-Taylor said. No arrests have been made, but police hope to catch the per son or people responsible, she said.

CNN report: Weston said he was about two seats away from the stained glass windows when the shooting began. That's when his friend stepped in to help him, he said. "The first one I was like 'What is that?'... And then I heard it again (and) I just ran under the pew and then I covered my head. My friend Victor saved me though 'cause he laid on top of me but he got hit," he said. They hid under the pews for 5 to 10 minutes before evacuating to the gym and locking the doors, he said. His friend was injured and taken to the hospital, he told WCCO. "I was super scared for him, but I think now he's okay," Weston said.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, Manhattan (WABC) --Two teenage girls were injured in a shooting in Greenwich Village - just blocks from Stonewall Inn. Police say shots were fired during a dispute at 3 Sheridan Square just after 10 p.m. Sunday. Officials believe a 16-year-old girl opened fire on a crowd, along with a male accomplice. She struck a 17-year-old in the left ankle. The teen was not an intended target. The 16-year-old girl was shot in the head by the accomplice unintentionally, according to police. He fled the scene and is yet to be found. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Hitting and killing a child with your car apparently is not in and of itself wrongdoing according to cops!
Gastonia police declined to comment to NBC News. In a statement, they said that "there is no evidence of speeding or wrongdoing on the part of the driver, therefore no charges have been filed. The driver continues to be cooperative and the incident remains under active investigation by the Gastonia Police Department's Traffic Division."
