I see other artists having their own, highly recognisable style. it matters more than marketing; if the viewer connected with past work, any new work will immediately bring up feelings (pleasant or unpleasant) before they explore the new work.

They say that if you want to learn to be a great artist, you need to copy the masters. Of course, that’s total non-sense, we all know that. You are a great artist when you can improve on the masters’ work!

Study of perspective. I’ve noticed the Pareto principle at work: the last 80% of the work took the last 20% of the time. Which means that I lost the first 80% of the time doing only 20% of the work - that is mildly demotivating, especially with large paintings 😄

I’ve been working for the past weeks on a commission. I’m happy with the concept, but disappointed with the brushwork. The client was ecstatic and I was moved when I saw that they hanged it in their living room the next day. Will not be taking commissions for a while

Ok, no more excuses: need to get back to painting. Went yesterday to a painting course/group and, boy, felt so good to mess with paint just for fun!

I was in Greece when I saw your painting and it reminded me to rest a little, from the heat, under an olive tree. I’d call it “Rest”.

Vacation time! Found a store with art supplies while on the island and went bonkers.

Now that I’m more settled in my new house, I restarted painting. Sadly, a friend’s beloved pet passed away recently and she was deeply affected. I hope a painting of the cat will give my friend a way to cherish her memories. (WIP)

I have ideas and I have a client begging for paintings, but I feel stuck; 2 very long weeks until I get the keys of my new house+studio. I just fooled around for an hour every now and then, practicing and learning (light and shadows, test of soft blending acrylic paint)

It’s almost finished; the eyes need some sparkle. Since last time, I only re-worked the eyes, the mouth, the nose and the hair. Oh, and the neck. It would have been easier to say “I kept only the left ear as is”, but that would have been a very short post 😅

Another work in progress. I don’t know how other artists work, but I feel dread and overwhelmed when I set out to start a new painting, yet one hour later I’m so excited that you need to drag me away from the canvas by force, otherwise I won’t even drink a glass of water.
