#TrainMisconductor is a pixelart railroad switching puzzle video game under development by myself and MsAsterisk. You run an alien locomotive, shunting cars from track to track in increasingly convoluted rail yards, while minimizing your timer and move counter to keep your conductor happy. #IndieDev
digital art drawing of a narrow gauge alien steam locomotive with 12 small wheels, a saddle tank, two funnels, a coal bunker on top of the saddle tank, platforms on either end, and some blinkenlights on its appliances. Standing on the front platform is an orange slimegirl in a hi-vis vest, with a blue slimegirl climbing up the ladder next to them. Title reads Train Misconductor. Screenshot of Train Misconductor, a 3D isometric perspective train game with faux pixel art graphics. Here we see a straight track with a parallel side track connected at both ends, with a pair of stub-tracks sprouting off in opposite directions. On one siding is a boxcar, on the other is a tanker. The tank truck and forklift next to each indicates they are parked in the wrong spots. The yellow tank engine from the drawing at the top of the post is also visible. The control stand is a skeuomorphic interface resembling the electronic control stand of a diesel engine, albeit with a brass pressure gauge and sight glass over the throttle lever. There is also a digital clock for a timer, and a mechanical counter displaying the move count. Screenshot showing an Inglenook Sidings level, with a 4 car long track fanning out into tracks of length 5, 3, and 3. There are eight boxcars of varying colorful liveries. The locomotive is shunting some of them. There is a warehouse on the longest track. screenshot shows a Timesaver level. A track with a passing loop is connected by a switchback to another pair of sidings, with two stub sidings at either end and one in the middle. There are five cars of varying types parked on each track. The g.u.i. shows placards with icons of each car hovering over that car's destination. The mouse cursor mouses over a refrigerated boxcar, highlighting the car in white.

M33, the Triangulum Galaxy. Composite image with just under 4 hours of total integration time. It's the third-largest galaxy in the Local Group, the first being Andromeda and the second being our own Milky Way. It's also the second-closest major galaxy, sitting at ~2.7 million lightyears. 🔭
A photo of a large spiral galaxy. The arms are somewhat indistinct and subtle, but two major ones can be made out. Dark dust lanes snake their away through the arms like veins. Several large pink clumps dot the face of the disk, each one a vast star-forming region hundreds to thousands of lightyears across. The center of the galaxy glows with a soft pale yellow light. The outer regions are a dimmer bluish-purple. Many foreground stars are also present, all of which are much closer than the Triangulum galaxy and sit within the Milky Way, just happening to be between the viewer and the galaxy behind them.

so many people have asked for a steam page that i've decided to get the ball rolling on that as of today. now i gotta wait for the intake tax stuff to be processed, but then i'll be able to make the steam page so you all can wishlist.

so be ready for that.

lineless digital painting of the loco and train crew in Train Misconductor, cropped in to show just the conductor standing on the engine's footplate, and the engineer climbing the ladder. The conductor is a curvy orange slimegirl and the engineer is a rail-thin blue slimegirl. they are wearing rail worker uniforms: navy blue and hi-vis yellow vests, and headscarfs. The locomotive's front footboard wall, its smokebox door, its ditch lights, and its headlight are visible. The background is a brown rocky cliff with blue-green clovers dotting it.

A truly remarkable feat, when you really sit down and appreciate everything that went into this image.

Hopefully one day things like this become commonplace.

Hal Clement's hard scifi novel Mission of Gravity concerns Mesklin, a massive planet spinning once every 17 minutes. The essay he wrote on it was called Whirligig World. My KSP mod featuring Mesbin, a massive rapid rotator, took on that name. When I changed my username, i went with Whirligig Girl.
text: Whirligig World (where we're going, we won't want wings). Image of a orion nuclear pulse rocket near an airless gray oblate spheroid planet. Screenshot of the map screen in Kerbal Space Program, depicting Mesbin, a large airless oblate spheroid planet with craters and continental plates, orbited by a system of moons: Statmun orbiting just above the surface, Thresomin about one planetary diameter away, followed by the Moon-sized Graymun, then Earth-sized Kerbmun, with its tiny coorbital Troymin, and then in the far distance, the super earth mass Derbin with its own moons, the moon-sized Graymun and the tiny Derminmus. More recent image of Mesbin, showing a more lenticular shape, and a more detailed multi-ring basin crater with ejecta billowing out in arcs due to the coriolis effect. In the distance, the white ball Derbin appears, like a much brighter version of the Moon. cover of the science fiction book Mission of Gravity by Hal Clement, featuring two suns, and an oblate spheroid planet with oceans and continents, two moons, and a ring.

Art of the Conductor and Engineer characters, as drawn at left by MsAsterisk--who is the game's programmer, but an excellent artist in her own right--and myself.
The orange conductor slimegirl, wearing a red and black plaid headscarf, dark blue vest with yellow hi vis stripes, and black pants. their legs are digitigrade or ungulate, with custom boots. They are looking at a clipboard and pointing off in the distance vaguely behind then viewer. Next to them, looking in that direction and using their hand to shield their face from the sun, is the blue engineer slimegirl, with a white and blue striped shirt and headscarf, and the same black pants and dark blue and yellow hi vis vest. Their feet are more human-shaped, with normal boots. The same characters as in the previous image, but in a different art style and in generic poses.

Train Misconductor is based on model railway shunting puzzles like J. Allen's Timesaver and A. Wright's Inglenook. Development began last Dec. What began as a simple Inglenook prototype has evolved into a huge project that's exceeded our expectations and proved very fun for both devs and playtesters
The inglenook level, with no scenery. Just track, the locomotive, and colorful cuboids as cars. The inglenook level, now with the warehouse, assorted cars, and the orders sheet map visible in the upper left corner. The interchange yard level as a short yard ladder with four parallel tracks, and a handful of cars. The orders sheet is no longer onscreen. A nearly up to date screenshot, missing only the clover and wildflower ground texture. The resolution is higher than the previous image by a factor of 5/3, and the loco model has been redone. The level is comprised of five long stub tracks, each with many cars on them.

My cute little soundbyte is "if it comes out in 2025 or 2027, something will have gone wrong." But we just don't know.
Q: When will Train Misconductor be released?
A: It depends on a whole lot of factors. We want to make sure it's good and ready before it comes out. Some fundamental features are still not yet implemented, and there is a lot more art left to do. It all depends upon how long a two person hobby indie dev team with no budget can go before getting burnt out. My cute little soundbyte is "if it comes out in 2025 or 2027, something will have gone wrong." But we just don't know.

This is why you shouldn't shut up about racism in other marginalized communities. Because it is all tied together. You can't dismantle ableism and be racist, they're part of the same system. Same with racist people in the LGBTQ+ community. Your marginalization does NOT absolve you of racism.

The thing I think about is how agile the Christofascist coalition has been

Building first on hatred for Black people, then expanding by making abortion a thing people cared deeply about (completely synthetic political development), then expanding by making hatred of LGBTQ esp trans people the issue

More broad gauge cars: this time, tankers. here's seven of the eleven new tank car textures.
#TrainMisconductor #IndieDev #trains
screenshot of train misconductor, an isometric perspective pixel art style game. There are three tracks next to eachother. The outer tracks are dual gauge, with three rails each, and the inner track, which connects the two, is broad gauge with only two widely spaced rails. On the narrow gauge parts of the dual gauge tracks are two advanced steam tank engines, dwarfed by all of the other rolling stock, comprising various boxcars and tankers which are twice as long and substantially wider and taller than the tank engines. The new tank car textures include a plain orange, a trans flag striped car, a weathered black car, a lesbian pride striped car, a clean black car, an off-white car, and a silver car with an orange stripe.

Commission for pikablob of Imperial State Railway No.39865, operated by the Empire of Light. Based on the JNR Class 9600 2-8-0 freight locomotives and the swiss electric steam locomotives.

#steampunk #steamlocomotive #train #locomotive #SteamEngine #art #digitalArt #commission
A large black steam locomotive with a 2-8-0 wheel arrangement, that is, eight driving wheels and a small unpowered set of leading wheels. Its fittings are done up in brass. It has smoke deflectors, large black panels on the sides of the smokebox at the front of the cylindrical boiler. Its tender is a six wheeled car with a cylindrical water tank and a small coal bunker at the front. Above the rear of the boiler and the top of the cab is bulky electrical equipment, with visible blue-white arcs, and a pantograph connecting the locomotive to overhead wires.
