PAPERBACK GIVEAWAY!

I have an extra copy of my latest to give away. The illustrations came out really nice if I do say so myself!

Because of all the weird tariff and shipping stuff, I'll have to limit this to US only but drop a comment if you're interested and I'll pick a winner Oct. 15th

It's here!

Roadkill is out in the world. I can't in good conscience recommend it to all readers. A sad and angry book. 90% of the animal characters are dead at the outset & the humans don't fare much better. But if you're in the mood for an unconventional eco-horror experience, links in comments!
Book cover for Roadkill by Helen Whistberry showing a bird, raccoon, and snake skeleton sprawled across a dark asphalt highway with yellow dotted line. The title is in large yellow letters that have blood streaming down them and out onto the road and animals. There is a dark and stormy sky in the background. Black and white illustration of the head and neck of a howling wolf in profile. Its mouth is wide open and a dark liquid is trickling from its mouth, snout, and eye.

When a reader lets you know how moved they were by a line in your book and it happens to be your own very favorite line you have maybe ever written... 😍

Makes it all worthwhile 💜

You've given me a whole other rabbit hole to explore 😂

I don't think so but that's interesting. I think I've only seen the Hammer horror stuff

Me neither... seems a bit more obscure and is a more straightforward dramatic role than you usually see him in

Tonight's movies: House of 1000 Dolls (1967), rather dull "thriller" but I'll watch Vincent Price in literally anything; Alias John Preston (1955), an offbeat psychological thriller with a dramatic Christopher Lee performance, but I think Hitchcock covered the same ground better in Spellbound.

Here's a little cartoon for #WorldOctopusDay 🐙
Ink and watercolor cartoon showing an octopus peeking out of a coconut shell underwater. The octopus says: "I've been working on a novel, but I'm afraid to show anyone. Maybe I'll put one page out there." A fish swims up to look at the page and says, "That stinks!" The octopus disappears inside the shell and says, "Everyone's a critic."

🦣 The Mastodon giganteus of North America /.
Boston: J. Wilson, 1852..

[Source]
Illustration of the fossilized bones of a Mastodon giganteus foot from the 1852 publication. The detailed black-and-white drawing shows large, rugged bones including the ankle and toe joints, labeled with letters for identification. The bones appear textured with visible surface irregularities, highlighting the massive structure of the extinct prehistoric mammal. The image is set against a plain background with the title "Mastodon Giganteus" below.

Scam alert: there's an IngramSpark impersonator at ingramsparkbookpublishers dot com. Part of a wave of publishing/ghostwriting scams from Pakistan that hijack authors looking to self-publish--they often "borrow" well-known publisher names but this one also "borrows" the real IngramSpark's logo
Screenshot of IngramSpark impersonator's contact form, with chat window where scammer sales rep "Travis Clark" claims that "We are Ingram Spark's hands-on services department. You will be able to find our information here: https://www.ingramsparkbookpublishers.com/

Forever flicker-posting.

📷🌿🪶
A photo of a male northern flicker (Colaptes auratus), a sleek taupe-colored woodpecker with a gray face and a long beak, red cheek patches, a red spot on the back of its head, a large black bar across its chest, black and red tail feathers, and black polka dots all over its belly. It is perched on a thin bare tree branch with its head turned over its shoulder to the left of frame, its belly toward the camera, and pale blue sky behind it.

mother Goethel, 2025

-{ #art | #illustration | #fantasy }-
An illustration of mother Goethel, the witch from Rapunzel. She stands in the center, surrounded by thorny bushes and between two crooked trees, holding a baby wrapped in luminous white cloth and her eyes glowing a malicious golden color. In the foreground we see rampions growing from golden vines which intertwine like braids; in the background, in the distance and in the middle of a forest, we see a lone tower

Dolly Parton has been a good person all her life. She does so many kind things for people. Compare that to someone like JK Rowling who wakes up every day and decides to be an absolute asshole.
