Hello! I'm an artist that makes comics now and then. You may know me best as the author and illustrator on the comic 'Without Blitzo', as well as the ongoing comic 'Glass Spider'. I like to talk about movies, music, history and video games.

BEST SONG 180

What's the best song on 'Release'?

It's gotta be 'The Samurai in Autumn'. It's such a cleansing sound.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with your rankings.

BEST SONG 179

What's the best song on 'Hefty Fine'?

'Ralph Wiggum'. I mean, a song made up of Ralph Wiggum-quotes? How can it not be?

Corporate negligence, portrayed in the most unique and terrifying fashion possible. Who knew that all it took to make a scary movie was to make 'Them' a reality?

"Wait, so... this means that these people died because of..."

That's right. Giant spiders. REAL giant spiders. It's even confirmed by the second to last frame, as one of the actors stare in horror at the massive arachnid towering over them.

The broken lens adds a lot of weight to the situation.

The wall has finally given way, showing a rotting skeleton covered in cobwebs. It's all a coverup by the movie studio, trying to hide their failings as a work of fiction.
wholetthemonst1.bsky.social
Such is the case with this movie as well... however, instead of radiation...

Title drop.
wholetthemonst1.bsky.social
Regardless, you get the sense that something big must've happened for such a long list of casualties. Like Howard Hughes' 'The Conquerer', where big portions of the movie was filmed near a nuclear testing site, which meant pretty much everyone got radiation-related sicknesses.

You may also have noticed the slowly emerging crack in the wall behind the text. An aesthetic choice, or a representation of something hidden and rotten underneath the squeaky clean facade, trying to break through out into the open?
wholetthemonst1.bsky.social
... so, a long list of names start scrolling upwards, and if you get a sense of deja vu? That's completely intentional; the people found in the 'in memoriam' segment are also the ones found in the opening credits.

They all died the exact same year too...
wholetthemonst1.bsky.social
However, once those credits end, we cut to an 'in memoriam'-segment. Apparently this movie is dedicated to people that were, at the time, recently departed.
wholetthemonst1.bsky.social
Regardless, there IS a reason for the odd presentation. You see the credits, and you notice all of these names showing up. These people all worked on this movie, so you better pay attention.
wholetthemonst1.bsky.social
... I will say that the order of presentation does throw me off a little; it starts off with the ending card, and then we get the credits. Normally that's standard nowadays, but back in the day? Not so much; the credits were usually placed at the opening...

... unless 'The End' is the movie's name.

So, as the title might suggest, we are witnessing a recording of a video channel. Much like any tape, it's sort of a mixture of footage, played in just about any random order you can imagine.

From the looks of it, it seems like we just caught the ending of some old black and white horror movie.

Eventide Media Center was the one responsible for today's subject; the video titled 'Midnight Movie'. The overall catalogue of content on this channel is top notch, but this video in particular stuck with me the best for a couple of reasons.

The analog horror-craze paved the way for plenty of creators, and at the start of it all, we had a handful of creators that showed us what could be done with a little bit of context. Helming the early days were Local58TV, Gemini Home Entertainment, The Mandela Catalogue... and Eventide Media Center.
