I've updated the social media chart. More people keep coming here and following me that I respect so it's been tough to figure out what to do with this account.
Posting habits per social media websites (in order of increasing irreverence). TL;DL: Twitter is dead for me, my Bluesky is becoming more serious than I want it to be. Still haven't figured out how to handle my social media.

Ever since playing this game, I've been saying, "As they say", at least once a day.
Tiger-chan from Endless Monday saying "All work and no play makes you stupid and boring. As they say." She says "as they say" a lot, frequently about things that people do not, in fact, say.
This game is so good please play it 😭

Nobody ever says AAAA sincerely. Very fun word.

If there was a gun with those effects, the tradeoffs compared to a regular old "slug thrower" seem both worth it and very practical. On top of my made up effect, there's also many, many more positives that I could see a "switched to LCD monitors over CRT almost overnight" effect happening.

Problems this solves:
1. Works nicely with, "set for stun", as a tuned down bolt that still applies this same neurological effect, but to a much lower and safer degree.
2. Makes "blasters on full" MUCH more lethal than a bullet.
3. No over-penetration means they are "safer" in tight indoor spaces.

For a while I've had this headcanon that blaster bolts in Star Wars apply some kind of neurological shock when used on living things that (in most cases) is just instantly lethal. In my dumb fan brain, this squares away a lot of the hows and why they're seen as so practical as to be ubiquitous.

I love games based around vehicles.

Was digging through the closet and found out the hard drive that failed on me earlier this year was one of those hard drives that's so famous it has its own Wikipedia page.

Helps that it's one of my favorite guns of all time too, evocative of a very specific time, modeled with the same 3D modeling techniques and polygon counts that video game guns of that era would have had too.
Photo of a soldier in a forest holding the whole XM29 OICW (Objective Individual Combat Weapon) which was a 5.56 rifle with a giant semi-automatic 20mm airbursting bullpup grenade launcher mated to the top of it with an equally gigantic and complicated scope full of computers. Even though it's a hilariously obsolete and outdated design, it still screams THE FUTURE to me.

I've been staring at this for like 10 minutes now. Amazing work.

No, but I do think it would be fun to make a 6DOF shooter.
why485.bsky.social
Yes! And also made by the original developers of Descent! I'd also throw in a recommendation for Desecrators, a small indie game which is a bit more Foresaken than Descent but it's another recent 6DOF game I've really enjoyed.

Desecrators is a retro FPS inspired by '90s six-degrees-of-freedom shooters. Plunder your way through the galaxy to destructive weapons and technology powerful enough to take on the ultimate heist: Th...

Do you ever think about the fact that Wikipedia is the last good major website on the internet? You aren't bombarded with ads. It doesn't try to push video on you, and it doesn't redirect you to a scam site.

I made a Unity text rendering political compass.
The bigger and more complicated your text is, the more likely it is that you should use TextMeshPro. Large and dynamic/complex text is the ideal use case of TextMeshPro. Meanwhile, small and simple/static text has a niche with the old legacy text system.
If you have text that is small, but dynamic/complex, you should probably (but not necessarily) use TMP. This is text you want the player to read like an article, with rich text. A "codex" in a video game is a good example of this.
For text that is very large, but still very simple and/or static, you should probably use TMP too, because TMP's signed distance fields are specifically made for scaling to arbitrary sizes and view angles.

It'll never happen now, but given that EA Motive has experience making space sims now, I always thought EA could have done the funniest thing.

I trialed Substance Painter a few months ago because I figured I should at least have some exposure to the modern way that people make textures and stuff with. Ever since then, I can't stop seeing the Substance Painter auto materials in EVERYTHING. It's kind of ruined a lot of 3D models for me.

Whoever is out there keeping bfmods.com/mdt/ up and running, a Web 1.0 treasure trove of documentation and tutorials (plus forum) for modding Battlefield 1942, thank you for your service.
The Engine Type page from bfmods.com showing how Engines (as in like, car/plane/boat engines) work and what all the different variables and properties do, with many hyperlinks to other pages featuring more detailed breakdowns of each individual line.

I once called a new coworker by the wrong name for about a month until he finally had enough and corrected me. I'm much more of a faces person than a names person and he just looked so much like a Cory.

I'll also say, it's funny watching this now because I'm pretty sure the new Client Side Prediction addon for PurrNet (completely free, by the way) must have been based on this talk because this is exactly how it works, and even uses the same terminology.

Excellent talk that, now that I'm a lot more familiar with networking and networking problems, was a fantastic rewatch. Rocket League's netcode is downright magical.

I actually love the "Nintendo Hire This Man" look.

I still want to make something like Battlefield, even though it's the most pointless and guaranteed to fail kind of game to make right now. It's one of those kinds of games that are like gamedev candy. It's a very systems heavy sandbox with only the barest of essentials in gameplay structure.

FishNet is the weird one. It feels like a vindictive fork of Mirror and has a cult-like following and lead who will take every chance to tell you how much better FishNet is than others. Architecturally similar to Mirror, maybe more powerful, but much more confusing with very sparse documentation.
