On 8 October 1939 the first ghetto was opened at Piotrków. This was soon followed by the ghetto in Radomsko, and the first major ghetto in Łódź in February 1940

Over the following two years, hundreds of ghettos would be established across Poland

#OnThisDay in 1938 it was agreed by Nazi leaders that all Jewish citizens should have their passports stamped with an identifying letter ‘J’.

The marking of their passports alienated the Jewish community and constituted an important area of persecution.

The role is a six months fixed term contract, with a possibility of extension, starting in November 2025.

On 2 October 1942, Dr Hans Schmoller sent this telegram to his sister in law who had emigrated to England. Exactly a month later he died in unknown circumstances at the hands of the Nazis in the ghetto...
