She is very confused and frightened but then is so obviously relieved and happy when I come pick her up it's almost worth it getting up at 4am to rescue her. Just melts my heart.

Now she is 17 and wakes up lost and scared at night, she cries and I have to get up and cuddle her. She likes to sleep in the bathroom on the mat, it seems to happen most often when she is in there so I shut the door at night so she is not by herself when she wakes up.

Mine only did it a few times when she was much younger. Never figured out what might have caused it. It was so random I couldn't correlate it with anything stressing her. And she was never close enough to claw me when it happened. I hope yours gets over it too.

He's probably having nightmares. I have a female cat prone to them. Several times I have seen her jump straight up out of her bed on the dresser and leap a foot in the air and whirl around staring in absolute terror. It was obvious something got her in her sleep.
