A lot of people treat it like an actual job instead of a fun hobby and the baggage that comes with that hurts everybody in the hobbyspace, imo. We gotta get the capitalism brainrout out of hobbies before it hurts more people.

You've my deepest sympathies on that one- RP venue culture is something I've noted as extremely disturbing, watching it ramp up from when I started RPing in XIV (ShB) to now.

ngl part of why i dropped out of rp was this bullet point. i had a couple folks approach me for my minerica knowledge, then they got their goodies and i never heard from them again.

That said- the AFK timers may help on aether when big content creators stream and their audiences clog up aether with AFKing in spots along the MSQ route so they can get recorded in footage. Some will sit in their scenic “ambush” spots for hours and hours at a time, which helps nobody.

I’m on the sidelines of my s/o raiding and from what I understand: most serious raiding takes place on aether, as crystal’s pf is seen as rough, sparse, and ill-informed. If you encounter somebody who actually studies their job or the encounter on a crystal pf, you need to go buy a lottery ticket.

being queer is generally more normalized than irl, but still plays into societal things in different ways (gesturing at my amaljic neogender headcanon pile and fana not unpacking that she felt so comfy socializing with others who didn't exist in a binary)

it takes a lot for her to consciously clock that she's nonbinary actually, and that she has been giving a lot of her own ticks too much wiggle room with "oh i'm just sharlayan" (ie "i don't like lace or frills or showing off my muscles. i'm just sharlayan, i suppose")

Like ngl some folks run their RP character or venue like the hobby is a side hustle freelance cake bakery from TikTok and it is disturbing

Putting it as menu and meat market is low-key genius because yeah, that really /is/ the vibe sometimes

Even with the whole backstory approach, it doesn’t tell me what you the player wants.

I think a lot of it is that I’m very exhausted by the tendency to move goalposts with “lore-abiding/lore-flexible” and every other iteration of the concept those words try to capture.

A lot of people use those words to smokescreen that they just don’t wanna interact with certain canon concepts.
