"The Comeback Kid". Having been hunted to extinction in the late 1890s the buzzard slowly returned (from Scotland) and is now our most widespread bird of prey. Legal protection, adaptability, opportunism and our mild climate have all helped with their success.

Another case of the highly pathogenic avian influenza was found in a wild goose in Donegal. This follows a buzzard in Galway and a buzzard in Dublin. Three cases in wild birds in six weeks.
Please do not attempt to handle a sick or dead bird. Report your finding to Dept of Agriculture.

Farmer Pat McLoughlin highlighted the growing trend in illegal hare hunting this morning on Newstalk.
Government must look at increasing penalties for offenders and establishing a specialised unit dedicated to combating wildlife crime.

There is a fossil in The Natural History Museum of a tiny shrew sized hedgehog that dates back 52 million years.
Today hedgehog numbers are in decline.
Lets see what the next four years bring as new governments both home and abroad begin their terms of office.

Researchers in New Caledonia found that 86 bat species throughout the world are preyed upon by cats. About a fourth of these are listed as near threatened by the IUCN according to Bat Conservation International.

We are delighted to be collaborating with Fighting Words in primary schools. On Friday we visited St Joseph's in Drogheda with illustrator Sadhbh McElveen.
We are very excited to see The Lost Squirrel, as written by the students, based on what they learned about wildlife!

This weekend we are running our Advanced Wildlife Treatment course for veterinary clinicians and nurses.
