Eternally surprised every time a crocus uncreases
beauty refined
Consistently distraught every time a death is stolen
dignity strip-mined
Arrhythmically heart-dropped every time a missile
screams across the skyline
Tears keep pouring
rage keeps roiling
fuels stubborn joy divine:
we remain reminded

Equinox, day of birth and death, sprouting and decay, time of rapid changes, an audible upheaval and release from the heaviness of winter. The soil breathes in and releases the rotting odors of all that was frozen and expired. Mud, mud, mud! and onion sprouts.

The kids in the woods today remarked, why does it smell like onions!?! we looked around to find the first shoots of our beloved Nodding Onion (Allium cernuum) springing from the otherwise dormant prairie. Spring is just a week away and we are feeling eager and excited!
