Can you pay AVCs into the state pension? My understanding is that they are towards private/work-based pensions? Maybe additional NI...

Yes, the lack of awareness has always puzzled me. I knew at 30 that my pension wouldn't be at 60, as originally expected when I started work. And I wasn't even paying close attention.

Really interesting review. Ta!

He really was! I rewatched Police Squad last year. Still makes me laugh.

It is totally silly, but really laugh out loud in places.

My Irish family always kept both doors accessible (FIRE!!), but we always came and went from the back door. I still have this habit now.

😟 that's rubbish
January 22, 2026 at 10:09 PM
Indeed. I think this is why the discussion above added Norway (and the UK) into the list. But yes, how much damage can be done if trade is very minor? I don't know anything about that, so will bow to your knowledge.

I think the discussion above relates to Trumps lack of understanding of the EU as trading bloc. It's not possible to place restrictions on "some" EU countries without placing them on "all". The extra UK/Norway comments are just adding in the countries outside the EU who are in the list.
January 19, 2026 at 6:53 PM
Ah, yes. Apologies. I'd forgotten what the full list of "8 countries" was.
January 18, 2026 at 10:02 PM
Yep. EU and UK. But not "8 EU countries". It's bizarre how few people are pointing this out

That's beautiful!

Sadly, this isn't true 😔

It isn't, it's near Kendal. So Cumbria, but not LD

They lost my recent send. Photo is deliberately obscure, and definitely not at the address it was sent to. Yet they're saying I have to sign a legal statement confirming it's lost, since it's marked as delivered. Wild.

There's a lot of covid going round locally. We had it 5 weeks ago. Seems highly contagious (before symptoms appear). Freezing shakes, nausea and loss of appetite, and needing to sleep loads.

Absolutely splendid 👌🏼
December 11, 2025 at 11:04 AM
That's appalling.

University timetables aren't organised by lecturers. Wouldn't be possible. Massively complex job. It used to be done by full-time salaried professional staff (this was one of my partners jobs in the past). Mostly now organised by a computing package, hence bonkers 8 hrs back to back shannanigans.

My order is on the way, and I know is going to be a real treat for us over Christmas.
December 2, 2025 at 9:56 AM
I think that might only be true in Switzerland. Really wish it was secret Lindt in the UK, but my taste buds say not...
November 29, 2025 at 9:43 AM
Oh, that's fab!

Great in the original French version, sung by Charles Aznavour, though.

That definitely needs to be a scene in the film, when it's made.
