Regarding this date not so fondly as it marks the anniversary of the loss of my favorite author, John Steinbeck (1968), and of my favorite astronomer, Carl Sagan (1996). In an era where great minds are needed, such losses are all the more significant.

Thrown into WW II 84 years ago with the attack on Pearl Harbor, with the destruction and unfathomable loss of life that followed over four more years of warfare, one might consider whether the sacrifices to rid the world of fascism should be so casually discarded for sake of one perverse greedy pig.
