Hero of old, man of renown
Like you could show this excerpt to 20 Jews on the street, even those sympathetic to the “real New Yorkers” argument, and they’d immediately get that this guy was talking like a Stromfront commenter. Why are our biggest idiots in charge of our media?

Why is it that it’s always the EICs and leadership of Jewish media/institutions that seem least able to recognize this shit for what it is? Like how is it the people in our community who are supposed to be the most literate about this stuff are the most brainless?

That seems to also misunderstand the 20th century far-right and their opinions on the Japanese…

Just the 2 goals conceded when one goal up, right? The one against Brighton we were 2 goals up.

Nothing is “antithetical to the holiday” when the holiday is meaningless to you.

But that middle-aged Jewish man probably won’t be celebrating Christmas, so it’s a goofy criticism to make. There’s plenty to criticize (and plenty to criticize on the basis of his expressed Jewish values) without adding an imagined layer of hypocrisy.

Are both of your parents culturally Jewish?

Menachem looks a little clearer there

There’s a weird misremembering among some fans over how the 19/20 season went, so people say Liverpool only won due to the absence of fans even though they were a million points up by the time COVID restrictions started. Probably a reference to that.

Yes. If a player passes to another player who is standing out of play it would go down as a failed pass attempt. A pass succeeds if it continues possession, and a pass to an offside player doesn’t do that. Successful passes are often reliant on both passer & receiver, so fault doesn’t matter

That’s not to say it’s devoid of motivated reasoning, but even that motivated reasoning is extremely rigorous. See the discussion behind establishing “eye for an eye” as referring to monetary compensation for a good example.

The Talmud goes to extreme lengths to ensure legal rigor and consistency lol this is a terrible comparison

But you see how many levels of speculation we’re at…

And whereas some countries become self-destructively insane facing a migrant influx (Europe with Syrians, the US now, the UK doing Brexit), Judah seems to have managed to harness the pop. bump to become more regionally powerful. So that is maybe some evidence that Israelites assimilated decently.
November 1, 2025 at 9:37 PM
That’s very true, which is why it only works if the Judahite narratives that tie themselves to Israel already exist. I think of it like if for some reason East Germany had to take in a bunch of West German refugees compared to how’d they’d react if they were Polish refugees.

But both sides at that moment only need to feel like the other side’s stories about their relationship to their shared god reveal some truth about that relationship to decide to redact their stories together. Who is giving ground to whom is what makes the redaction hard to place historically.

The southern elite feel like they’ve finally got the northerners to see them as they see themselves, while the northern elite are in no position to reject the epic’s overall southern viewpoint. This all happens before Judah sees the economic and political boom from the sudden population increase.

they both decide it’s in everyone’s long-term interest to come up with a standardized ecumenical version of how their god revealed itself to their ancestors. There are enough analogous stories that it seems like they’re just filling in gaps in the same framework, so no one’s stories win or lose.
November 1, 2025 at 9:09 PM
In my mental model, Judahite elites might genuinely just find Israelite elites *cool*, but Judahites certainly think Israelites serve the same god and are closely related somehow. They both have different tales about this god but now that Israel has fled to Judah,

Yeah it’s not something I’d personally recommend you add to a paper that’s not about that haha - there just isn’t enough to go off of to make a clear case. Maybe just do a small lit review of possibilities?
November 1, 2025 at 7:54 PM
Yeah super speculative, and it is clear that Israel dominates Judah culturally so the N to S direction of influence makes sense too. Personally I think a lot of the theological reconciliation comes during the chaos & refugee crisis immediately after the destruction of Israel.

This is contentious! The Kenite hypothesis argues that Yahwism came from the south up.

“If you agree with the non-Jews killed by Nazis for blood quantum on their Jewish identity you’re dishonoring their memory” man the only thing you disagree with fascists on is the aesthetics.
