Do you see Simons in their plans after this year? I'm not sure it makes sense to not do a deal that helps in the future just to keep the team this year.

I think I agree with you, but I'm not sure there is a workable trade due to the various cap/apron constraints. Have you seen one? Are we willing to give up even more assets to rope in a 3rd team to take some salary? I think at that point you're probably giving up too much.

How much will the Celtics have to pay for someone to take Simons to get under the cap? Will they pay it?

I like the Hornets trade bc the two incoming salaries would fit into a lot of trade exceptions giving us a path to get under the tax completely.

What do you think their pathway is to shed the remaining $18M? Just dumping Hauser doesn’t do it. I wouldn’t be surprised if Simons is not on this team this year and is just a chip for bargaining down even further.

I would not be in favor of giving up an asset to get off the contract since it’s not providing long term savings. I don’t think he has positive value. I think the savings need to come elsewhere (Jrue and Sam).

I’m not sure there is much of a reason to trade him, though. He’s expiring so you won’t get much $$ savings and I don’t think he has much value, so what will you really get for a return?
