328 days to marathon. Difficult threshold run, but I pulled through and got a new 5k PR of 24:54! Followed it up with cross training. Now for a plateful of tamale!

329 days to marathon. Nice near-freezing run this morning. Another easy base run and I can solidly see my "easy" pace dropping steadily.

The cold hasn't bothered me much in Seattle. Even at 34F I just need long joggers; a jacket makes me too warm.

330 days to marathon. Extended active warmup, then 5 miles at base pace. Nice and easy.

331 days to marathon. Sprints! I ran up Cap Hill to the Seattle Asian Art Museum since there's some nice straight stretches of flat ground. I got some nice 4:20-4:30ish sprints in!

333 days to marathon. Base pace run, just over 5 miles. I've been getting a bit bored of only doing laps around Lake Union, so I decided to try staying to my workout but adding in running up/down Cap Hill. Challenging, and turned out great.

Feels good to consistently meet pace targets on these. 10 minutes at 9:15/mi bookending 16 minutes at 7:20/mi

334 days to marathon. Threshold run day - these seem like the hardest of the running workouts so far. Last week was 25 miles, and this week looks similar - it'll take a while for my body to adjust to this.

Exhausted post run photo

346 days to marathon. My first "long run" though not longer than what I've been doing regularly. I assume these will ramp up slowly in distance.

337 days to marathon. Walking, and some anaerobic work. Did 7 intervals of 1 minute at a 6:00 pace! This makes me think I'll be able to do a 6:00 mile soon - it wasn't an easy workout, but I had a lot of energy left after.

Afternoon walks in the cold to pick up some home essentials

339 days to marathon. Did sprint work in the cold, wet, dark Seattle afternoon. If it were brighter and/or dryer I'd have sprinted harder, but at least got to ~5:30 pace for sprints safely.

I ran to Volunteer park for the sprints since it has great reasonably long stretches where I can sprint 200m.

340 days to marathon. Lactic threshold pace plus bodyweight cross training.

Always have to take a picture of the mountain when I can flying back in to Seattle

Day 2 of 344 of marathon training. The squat jumps I did yesterday definitely made the starting couple miles hard. I briefly walked but I kept the target average pace of 9:15.

344 days to the Honolulu Marathon.

I'm starting in the "Preparation Phase", which will last until I start "real" training in mid-June. My plan is to run the marathon in 3:30, so I'll need to do consistent 8:00 miles.

Was feeling very determined to get a sub-7 minute mile today
December 26, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Got a 4:03 kilometer today! Should break a 7:00 mile soon, though if I can keep that pace a little longer I could do a 6:30!
December 24, 2025 at 3:53 PM
Hard run today! This is the time of year it's actually nice to run in Austin

Um, hello "Daddy" from Walgreens Pharmacy

I wasn't intending to break my 5k PR today, but when I realized I was on pace to do so, I figured I might as well.

Woohoo! Three sub-8 minute miles in a row.

Another 100-mile rate milestone passed! 1,300 miles in a year of running and walking! I'm curious as to when the rate will converge to a "normal". If I keep my current pace up, it'll be around 1,800-1,900.

Whew, 40 books for the year so far.

I liked The Midnight Library, but it left me wanting more. Like the theme was reasonably explored, but there's parts that were missed but could have been very cool.

Still, really well done exploration of regret and want, and how that can lead to dangerous places

Continuing to keep up my walking. Just hit over 1,200 miles walked/run in the past year! I'm closing in on the 10k average steps daily milestone!
