It’s so sad what the republicans have done to America, Vance is actually more terrifying than trump because he is stone cold sane. Just pure calculated malice paid for by Peter Thiel.

the world watched as the seat of US power descended into chaos, and democracy hung in the balance.

Been watching the Jack Smiths deposition on YouTube, it’s mostly congressmen complaining that their phone lines were checked to see who phoned them. I don’t get why it’s a secret who phoned your congressperson but in the middle of a coup attempt it seems kind of churlish.

I just want to know what’s in Jack Smiths secret report on the national security case that Judge Cannon is so intent on hiding. Release the files, I know why the tax files never got released so whatever about those.

The influence on me of American culture is that I really don’t like being told what to do by some condescending over reaching orange bore. A lot of people seem to have lost that and it’s sad and inexplicable.

Autocrats always telling how you should vote. I think in a free country with functional services I should be able to vote by mail, in person, dressed as a pirate, whatever the hell way I want.

Manifest destiny and exceptionalism are not restricted to the right, it has been an idea undermining democratic alliances for years just the democrats tend to be more subtle about hard power.

To trump Canada is unfinished business, he wants to do what previous presidents couldn’t, that is why annexing Canada, Greenland etc doesn’t seem nuts to him and his flunkies. Defeating and colonising Mexico is also rooted in a certain right wing reading of American history.

I dont understand how people thought that stopping wars was a pacifist boast. It always clearly meant war to ensure compliance with trumpism. It was a bully’s declaration of intent. No one would dare fight, only do as told. Think people hear what they want instead of really listening.

I’ve got a new understanding why Pharoahs kept getting their names chiselled off the walls of Egyptian history, trump Kennedy center is quite an illustration of how legacies get taken over by insecure egos. Trumpgreenland and trumpoilvenezuela are not surprising developments. The surprise

The jealousy of Obama is only the most obvious because most people are familiar with his achievements and see the copying.

American History in the 18th and 19th centuries unglamourised is all about expansion across the continent and empire building across pacific and Caribbean islands. A lot of Presidents places in history is how much land they added to the US. Trump has always been in competition with every President.

The guarantees Europe is suddenly unsure of have been privileged complacency and not reality for loads of countries and if anything good comes from this hopefully it’s a meaningful expansion of real democracy and security to all humans not just the special few.

Rules based international law is a great idea, the best way to guarantee peace but it’s been running on hypocrisy and empty rhetoric for years, Putin has spent decades undermining territorial sovereignty all the over the world, chipping away at alliances, creating culture war divides, bribing pols.
