I am just realising that quite a few people have followed me/followed me back on here and I haven't really been posting. But I'll start posting now I swear. So let me start with an introduction.
Bro, some guy I know was asking for interns in a group chat and I half jokingly replied that tell me if you have openings in six months (cuz I gotta stay with the fam till my sister finishes up her entrance exams and stuff, and that post said onsite)

I wrote an article about the data workers of the Global South who help train AI models, often in terrible conditions and astoundingly low wages.
I would love it if y'all read it. And consider subscribing please ♥️
When we talk about AI, we often think of giant rooms of servers - compute, as we call it. We think of machines churning billions of calculations every second. But there's a hidden, exploitative, human aspect to the process of training these models - the legions of data workers of the Global South.

I am running a day behind on this week's blog, but it should be good, I put a lot of effort into it. Although it's gonna be a bit out of the depth for some parts of my audience. It's about the data workers' powering the data annotation and human feedback pipelines that help train AI models.

Fortunately, I have the brand of autism that makes me the number one fan of a random Portuguese folk singer despite not knowing Portuguese and not the one that makes me do Nazi salutes.

My sister: "Why is Elon doing Nazi salutes? Does he not realise the Nazis would kill him for being brain-dead?"
I am dying 😭😭😭

Then how do we measure AI capabilities? Epoch AI thinks the answer might be FrontierMath. Let's take a look at how well their claim stands up.

The mathematical capabilities of AI models are miles away from those you'd expect from an average mathematician. But most maths benchmarks are based on grade school to high school mathematics and are already being aced by model.

People say, "Think outside the box!" WRONG! There is no outside. The universe is a box. You will never have a truly a original thought. Don't try to think too much. It's useless. Give up.

Hey everyone! My blog focused on AI is up now.
Link in my bio and in the post too.

What can you expect from my blog?
A critical and thorough review of what goes on at the edges of AI.

What should you not expect?
Fluff pieces or uncritical "AI bad" takes.
AI is transforming our world, but how often do we pause to examine the edges?

At The Next Frontier, we explore:
- Cutting-edge advancements in AI.
- The risks hiding at the margins.
- Voices from the periphery of the tech world.
- Lessons from history to guide the future.

Like a good data scientist and poet, I did sentiment analysis on a dataset of all the poems I have ever written (and managed to save on the cloud in my notes app etc) (there's quite a few), and the results were... surprising. I don't remember them being all that angry.

FYI. Honey, the coupon extension, is a scam and both intentionally witholds coupon codes from you and also steals affiliate revenue from any content creator or website whose links you might be clicking on. Stop using it.

I think about this often and I don't have good answers for the questions this raises. What is certain though, is that if the university took the threat seriously and there had been an intervention earlier, lives could have been saved.
