Day One seems to have lived up to my worst fears.

In 24 hours America was lost. Our moral standing, our integrity, our honor, our trust - all lost. Probably never to be regained.

We are no longer the good guys - maybe haven't been for a while - but now there's no debate.

Each week, my mom and I spend the evening together. She's 86. We have dinner, talk, and watch TV. Recently, during a commercial:

Mom: Why do they have to use carrots?
Me: Would you prefer - a banana?
Mom: Laughs. But I like carrots. I don’t want to have to think about that when I'm eating a carrot.

I have become preoccupied with old-growth forests. I’ve always felt a deep connection to forests and the woods. I’m fairly certain I could live in the woods and I might list myself as a Druid — except for the human sacrifice part.
