AI is diluting higher education, as is online instruction. These will lead to a crisis in higher education as the public will increasingly question the integrity and value of it. Universities will have to ensure robust in-person proctored assessment of learning to recover their credibility.

I once half-facetiously proposed a revamp of the general education program on my campus to include the Trivium and the Quadrivium. This was in 2000 when what is now the HLC accreditation agency told us we needed a coherent gen ed plan.
