Previous NACs have gotten “railroaded” by developers; leaning from other NACs and using learnings to improve the process. Encourages open communication with them.
PC14: Support for culture, world nature of the sport. Sports has done a great job of being involved in young people’s lives. Good opportunity for relationship between arts/culture and sports.
PC13: Says she is thankful for thoughtful work by the NAC. Concerned about impacts and benefits extend into the broader community. Does the NAC see any opportunities to leverage concrete economic benefits for surrounding areas?
PC11: Love the idea of having surcharge to get housing money. How is it paid out and where does it go? Hopefully being paid out annually. What is DCFC plan for bicycles? Will there be bike valet?
PC10: Has MDOT or DDOT been invited to a NAC meeting or listening session?
Answer: Not been specifically invited to one of these meetings but is welcome to attend. Needs to be invited specifically to a NAC meeting to get clarity on current activities and future plans.
PC4: Concern with community field - is it going to be like the field house? Hopes the community field plays better than the field house. Says a transit hub would solve mobility issues.
PC3: Would love to see a rial feasibility study. Curious about accessibility overall with a project like this coming in. What have the discussions been with MDOT and DDOT? Need reliable transportation options for workers, fans and residents.
PC2: Impact to birds, issue with New Lab and Michigan Central. Birds are dying, 1/3 decrease in population - “what’s good for birds is good for people.” Wants to adopt lighting, bird friendly glass, and bird safe landscaping.
Response from NAC: Disappointed in involvement from MDOT, doesn’t want to put this on the developer. Committed to doing that outside of this process. Wanted to address parking and mobility issues that could be achievable by developer.
PC1: Presentation on transit and traffic was underwhelming - shuttles and carpooling isn’t enough. Looking for rail transit down Michigan, says the conversation has completed changed around transportation.
Q6: ADA compliance - what is required in stadium and housing units?
A: Every section must have an ADA compliant section, relying on developer for these specifics. Type A (4 units) and Type B units (remainder), and the regulations vary by type.
