"Wouldn't dream'a it." Wordlessly, she passed the cigarette to him with another pleased, tiny smile. Atsumu grinned unabashedly, taking a long drag. His lungs protested immediately. "Just... a little...closer...!" For the third day in a row, six-year-old Oikawa Tooru crept through the reeds and tall grasses of his backyard, venturing towards the shallow creek running through it. Mere feet away, a blue, mouse-like creature with a zigzagging tail ending in a blue ball bounced happily. Its ears twitched at the rustling, but it was undeterred, delightful trills filling the warm summer air. By now, his knobby knees were marred with little scratches and stripes of mud. His hands, too, were stained with earth from his slow crawl over soft ground.

A little backseat riding from Atsumu on this #WIPWednesday for 🐴 AU!
Hajime and Atsumu watched when Tooru finally jumped Chipmunk at their first course in the 1.30 meter height. Atsumu's leg was swinging around like he was the one riding, clucking in the distance, while Hajime leaned against the outdoor arena's fence with a white-knuckle grip. Tooru, meanwhile, was smiling so hard he felt like his jaw could detach. Chipmunk was game for just about anything, one ear forward and the other flicked back to listen to Tooru's soft clucks and woah's, which were rarely needed. Despite being a horse that had struggled to run on the track, he was powerful and careful now. Each jump felt like it whipped him out of the tack, power and strength and correct form coming together to create a perfect amount of scope. Chipmunk sliced through the jumps, the wind blowing through his mane and whooshing in Tooru's ears. The sun was shining down on them. Tooru was thrilled. "Get up!" Atsumu shouted one stride out of Tooru's last jump. Chipmunk sailed over it easily, even at a slower pace than Atsumu clearly wanted, and Tooru slowed him to a walk. "Atsu-chan," Tooru hissed, "you're totally ruining my joyful vibes.”

Iwaizumi Hajime was a medical examiner. His life was relatively simple: wake up, drink coffee and catch up on notifications, take the train to work among many others, change into his work scrubs, determine the cause of death in a brutal homicide, try to make sense of yet another mangled corpse, watch as families tearfully identify the bodies of their loved ones, coordinate with annoying police officers, and worst of all, attempt to scrub the persistent rot that infected his flesh every single day.
