Thanks for the explanation, need ‘bigger cables’ between Scotland and SE, that makes sense. Sorry I assumed it was your site; it looks similar. PS in case the site’s owner sees this, the ’why’ button doesn’t show up and there’s no ‘about’ info generally on mobile safari.

I don’t understand this. The graph seems to show wasted wind energy happening at the same time as buying in energy, why is this? Could you add an about page to the website explaining what’s going on here?

I think I looked at the accident data once and surprisingly single track roads are much safer than standard A-roads despite being narrow windy and bumpy with many people driving fast; up to the 60mph speed limit. I think it’s because you’re forced to concentrate more and there’s no overtaking.

When I first moved to Mull driving on single track roads felt like I was going terrifyingly fast and I’d still have a mum with a car full of toddlers on the way to pre-school driving right up my arse wanting to get past. Now I’m used to it and fly about the place like everyone else.

And the image on that bbc article doesn’t bode well. Un walkable boxfest; crap materials, minimum legal insulation, surrounded by car parking, probably miles from any shops or schools. Straight to @planningshit.bsky.social

Am I right in thinking that the TGV and going all in on nuclear power happened on his watch? Don’t know much about his politics otherwise but those two things were pretty visionary.

And every local council has its own website with a collection of online forms cobbled together by the IT department. Central government could be ‘clippy’ for decentralised local services: ‘it looks like you’re setting up a doctor’s surgery would you like, a surgery website, employee contracts…etc’

I was imagining a complicated (and probably unreliable) setup with rpi linked to rp2040s with i2c to control solid state relays to switch the 240 stuff. Nah £15 and just plop one of these behind the switch. (Obviously you need an electrician to do the 240v stuff.) The have din rail ones too.

And all these community power things require a board, a constitution, AGM, committee meetings, minutes… Board burnout is a thing and how many board members can one community supply. Poorer communities have less time to donate to these so they lose out. French style mayors?
