My understanding was that it all came off to be reviewed for the live album and that was a management call.
Personally, don’t see a need for him to announce anything and he doesn’t really pay attention to what others say. He’s a breath of fresh air in a desert of shitty era of music.

Some will most likely say that it was a gimmick, but when they started taking Reprise for extended sections…the gimmick ends and the hose begins.
