Had a danganronpa idea but it has spoilers for V3 if you care. basically there is a flash back light in the game which can implant memories into people‘s minds. It could be used to mentally turn people into clowns by changing their memories.

If you want any more ideas, in naruto the characters can transform into different people or things. Since they‘re ninja’s they could transform into clowns to investigate a mysterious circus that’s causing ninja’s to go missing or something.

One piece has a devil fruit that turns people into toys and even let’s the devil fruit user control the toys, so a clown devil fruit probably would make sense in universe. would probably be called the clown clown fruit or something.

Re:zero has a villain named cappella who can transform herself or anyone she touched into whatever she wants. she usually turns people into things like flies cause she’s extremely cruel, but she would maybe turn someone into a clown for amusement.

In madoka magica the girls get their powers by making a wish so maybe you could have someone wish for happiness or for someone else’s happiness which turns them into a smiling clown. idk.

Also maybe Mercedes and annette. I remember them being really excited to give Ingrid a makeover and I feel like they would be perfect for turning other people into clowns maybe as a prank. “Oh we’ll give you the perfect makeover just trust us!” holds magic clown nose behind back.

Maybe Bernadetta? I feel like having a shy and nervous character perform on stage and be the center of attention could be kinda funny. Like she could be the one to fall for pranks and take pratfalls, and the audience would laugh at her expense.

Maybe similar to peacock from skull girls? She even has a pie in the face attack so I feel like it fits. Maybe give her a clown nose attack that makes her auto win time outs due to the opponent turning into a clown. Also she would have a hypnosis ult that ko’s people at low hp that feels busted

Hopefully I’m not remembering incorrectly, but Nami in one piece prior to meeting luffy probably wouldn’t believe in hypnosis, or think it wouldn’t effect her, only to be proven wrong by Jango.

just remembered that mario party has a pie throwing game, so I feel like any of the princesses are fair game. Maybe peach since bowser already has that clown ship and would probably secretly like clown girls.

Hmm maybe Pokémon trainer since hypnosis is already in Pokémon. Could also make a joke about how she is a fool for only using 3 Pokémon in smash instead of 6. Also maybe Zelda since she is more on the serious side and instead of trying to protect hyrule she now wants to make the citizens laugh.
