We usually associate Bordeaux with red wine. But 60 years ago approx 58% of the vinifera vineyard area was white! Sémillon was the most widely planted variety, followed by Merlot, Malbec (!) and the Cabernets (Franc & Sauvignon together). Also, Hybrids accounted for 25% of Bordeaux's vineyard area.

Paul Bocuse (French 1926–2018) was a legendary chef based in Lyon,France, and is considered one of the most important figures in modern gastronomy. During WWII, Bocuse volunteered for the French army. He was wounded and hospitalized in Alsace where he got a tattoo of a Gallic rooster on his shoulder

U.S. wine-beer-spirits wholesalers enjoy extraordinarily high gross margins. Among non-durable wholesale trade, only "Apparel, Piece Goods, and Notions" has higher margins. In addition, and in contrast to all wholesale trade, the margins of wine-beer-spirits wholesalers have been trending up.

HARIBO now offers "Weinland" wine gums named after German wine regions (or the rivers associated with them), such as Ahr, Mosel, Nahe, Rhine, and Main. (The wine gums contain neither wine nor grapes though)
