I was asked what my hopes and dreams were, and whether I had any regrets….
After responding honestly- I was then told in no uncertain terms: You are not a creative person, artist or inventor. You should give up all of these ambitions now, rather than suffer disappointment.

A Dream:

(Disclaimer: this is more or less a transcription of what I remembered of the dream on waking. Being a dream, it doesn’t always follow what we consider logic. I chose not to edit or parse or reorder - with the exception of the noted musical number.) Dream: Matthew Modine as a wealthy…

(Disclaimer: this is more or less a transcription of what I remembered of the dream on waking. Being a dream, it doesn’t always follow what we consider logic. I chose not to edit or parse or reorder - with the exception of the noted musical number.) Dream: Matthew Modine as a wealthy retired divorced businessman, who happens to have taken up falconry.

7.27 problem with originality.
It reminds me of an analogy I made when Avatar first came out and all the talk of Fern Gully meets Pocahontas, etc.

Running and Creativity
As I set myself into this journey, again, trying to carve out time and focus to pursue my creative ideas, I found myself thinking last night about how it parallels my running history. More importantly, I was looking at my running starts and stops, and attempting to glean some wisdom that could help me maintain focus. An oversimplification is the analogy of progress: How do you run a marathon?

@howardtayler.bsky.social here is the passage I was telling you about, from Jo Clayton’s Quester’s Endgame (1986), conclusion of The Diadem Saga. Took me years to track down all 9 books so I could finish the series. Spoiler warning I suppose since it is the climax.

A Healthier Independence?

A Healthier Independence?
After posting “The Invisible Son”, I started tho think about providing some balance in perspective. My independence has grown in more positive ways. Back in school, I had two very good friends. We hung out and did everything together: bus rides downtown after school, bike rides nearly everywhere, explorations into the 10 acre wooded lot or the forbidden passages behind the stores in the mall.

The Invisible Son (August 2018)
I was visiting the wax museum for the first time and it brought back some uncanny echos of my past. People paused laughing moving from one statue to another, taking pictures, saving the moment, pos…

@kairyssdal.bsky.social this keeps rattling around in my brain today: if something loses 20% of its value, it has to claw back a 25% gain just to break even. That works in reverse, a 25% gain wiped out by a 20% loss, again breaking even.
I don’t make the rules, it’s just math. (80% * 125% = 100%)

Hear me out, all politics aside, if the hard G for Government is going to be pronounced soft in DOGE...
People can get over the hard G for Graphic being soft when we say GIF.

(Personally, when I first saw it I wanted to say doggy -- later I heard it on the radio)
