Caption contest: Pete Hegseth warsplaining the warrior ethos to senior generals is like that Florida man who white-man-splained Asian women to me.

Interesting. Nexstar, which is refusing to bring Jimmy Kimmel back onto the air, owns ABC stations in Democratic strongholds like New Haven, Albany, Binghamton. @50501movement.bsky.social @50501newyork.bsky.social @50501connecticut.bsky.social could you organize? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

Given that they've now lost 3 cast members of color and 2 female cast members and replaced them with mostly white men, it doesn't look promising.

What Lutnick says makes absolutely no sense, and he knows it. Or at least I hope he knows it, as the former CEO of a trading house.

It's truly sad that Trump is only willing to make a deal with #Ukraine over minerals (ie capitalistic aims) rather than any sort of moral ground over the rights of a sovereign nation. Ukraine is having to give up its precious resources in order to fight for survival. What shame.

Note the completely condescending tone of Bessent's reaction to the letter. He seems to think everyone is below him.

I don't know what it is about Scott Bessent, but he always looks so contemptuous of the people he's talking to, particularly women. I think it's the angle of his head: tilted up so he is looking down at them.

This is a coup from within that's enabled the state. And like the IU Board meeting that renewed Whitten's contract (despite a 93% no-confidence vote from the faculty), it was a surprise move, kept from the press, and done in session at such speed so that no one affected could possibly comment.

The Axios article didn't mention another provision in the bill: the state will review all programs to see if they are reaching a specified # of graduates per year or close them. This duplicates existing systems & ignores the nature of many programs that are integrated w/ other progs; it'll gut them.

Yes, it's a national trend, but there are also institution-specific issues. The president of IU is suspected of being behind the move. It's a classic case study of how leadership matters-- how leaders are installed & accepted (or not) by the people they lead. www.wishtv.com/news/i-team-...
IU leaders silent after lawmakers vote to have governor pick all trustees
Measure would gives Gov. Mike Braun full control over Indiana University Board of Trustees, sparking concerns about transparency and academic freedom.

This comes too close to the commitment deadline for undergraduate admissions and after the deadline for graduate admissions to US college and universities to sway international students, who could choose schools in less hostile countries. The damage to higher ed is already done, esp. for next year.

Great, Trump *still* hasn't figured out that Canada has changed prime ministers, and that the current one knows a helluva lot more about how central banks should work than he does.

Pretty sad when someone reduces an entire country--with all its people, culture, landscape, nuances--to a "brand." What a narrow, restricted life they must lead.

The @nationalreview.bsky.social hasn't figured out that some Arabs and non-Jewish folk actually live in Israel and are thus equating the country of Israel with Jewish identity.

In reaction to Trump screaming at Jerome Powell again. *Great* news for mortgages, credit card debt, etc. Are we great again yet?

Why pass on a shopping opportunity for Melania?

Funny. How come these things keep happening to Latines, not Anglos? Could it be... racism?

Sorry, he's the good billionaire, demonstrating that he could roll with it.
