IMO the reason we don't have it is manifestation of the selfishness that defines our national character. If tax rates were substantially higher across the board (especially at the high end, and 50%+ on all inheritance no exceptions) and we had a tax surplus every year, UBI would be a near-certainty.

The sum of those lines is what, around 60%?

What is the other 40% of people's net worth, which would be larger than either those lines most of the time?

I can't even guess? That is SO MUCH wealth that is neither stocks nor real estate. What do you think it is?
December 17, 2025 at 2:25 PM
Hard disagree. Capitalists by definition are looking to invest capital in individuals starting new enterprises. The investment opportunities that UBI would unleash would be profound. If anything capitalists will embrace it.

The only thing holding it up is a revenue stream big enough to pay for it.

Can they really be completely surrounded by an Armada, when they're not an island?
December 17, 2025 at 3:03 AM
Anyone who thinks Russia will attack NATO, given their inability to progress in Ukraine, is delusional. I'm sure they would love to if they could, but they have nothing left in their arsenal that could give them hope of surviving any direct action against NATO.
December 16, 2025 at 1:19 PM
The fact that Russia put this out means there was significant damage.

They haven't yet learned the value of giving unprecitable intel. Their first reaction is ALWAYS to lie, so it has become quite reliable as a contrarian signal.

Surely Hungary will block it anyway? That does NOT excuse Belgium! But would it even matter, as long as Hungary is still accepted as an EU member? Speaking of which, are there any plans yet to expel them?
December 15, 2025 at 7:47 PM
So ... does this mean Trump gets fired for saying this about a murder victim?

I feel like there were a lot of consequences handed out for these kinds of posts just recently, when someone got shot.
December 15, 2025 at 7:35 PM
But DOES America dislike AI? You'd be forgiven for thinking that if you spend a lot of time on bluesky. But I'd say among the people I know, there are certainly a few vocal opponents, but also a fair number of people who use/like it.
December 15, 2025 at 7:32 PM
For all we know, they were targeting more/all of them and only one attacker made it through the defenses. But regardless, if that sub was one that has been firing missiles at UA it is a great development for Ukraine.

NATO (if it still exists) will be lucky to have them one day.
December 15, 2025 at 7:27 PM
I'm not sure if thats true? He won Iowa and was a close 2nd in NH (behind next-door Bernie) before dropping out after 4th place in SC when everyone clearned the field for Biden.

We'll see in '28, but given how great a candidate he is, in my mind he is likely to be our next President. Hopefully.

Finally a bit of good news for the housing market. Housing has been far too expensive the last few years. Let's hope this decline is the start of a trend.
December 12, 2025 at 4:41 PM
This is a horrible take, and he is pushing a hateful narrative. He is also missing a lot of in-between steps.

Illegals are not buying houses. But they do live in them. Shrinking the population and crashing the economy via deportations will indeed ultimately put downward pressure on housing prices.

It is so refreshing to see multiple young and motivating candidates. I wish we had more races like these. It will get a lot of attention which will be great for both of them. The voters will choose, and then both Crockett and Talarico will work well together to help the ultimate winner in the fall.

Obviously, yes. MAGA is very closely aligned with the Saudis, Qatar, UAE, etc.

So Isreal is the obvious enemy of MAGA, and that is before you sprinkle on the massive dose of anti-semitism they grew up on.

Honestly it never made sense that they were pro-Isreal. Some cosplay to attract (R)s I guess?
December 8, 2025 at 7:12 PM
Is it cynical to say, "they don't want it fixed?"

The GOP brand is to shout loudly about what is wrong, and to tell you who is to blame for it. If people weren't suffering, (R)s might have a harder time motivating their voters to vote against those "others" responsible for their pain.
December 8, 2025 at 2:22 PM
Yep.

It is hard to compete in a field where tastes are so wildly different. The 85% you'll never watch is different from the 85% I'll never watch. You need a massive amount of content if you want to have a few shows for each of a few billion very different people to enjoy. Netflix does that well.
December 8, 2025 at 2:15 PM
No reason they should be, I suppose. Theaters are a sort of novelty these days for film nerds seeking a little nostalgia, right? Which IS a big market. Cities will still be able to support a theater or two.

But many enjoy their movie experience at home as much, or more. Cheaper and easier, too.

1.6% of GDP? That's it? Less than inflation, so their debt-to-GDP is actually improving, inflation-adjusted? I really throught they were in worse shape than that.

For comparison, the US deficit is projected to be 5.9% of GDP in 2025.
December 1, 2025 at 7:35 PM
Huh?

Since when is honoring your agreements and defending an ally "risking nuclear annihilation?" Rogue states like N Korea or Russia make nuke threats every day. They are not a reason to abandon allies, treaties, or principles. In fact, they should always be met firmly by standing strong together.

Some people (like me) lack the skill to create videos like this without AI. It can be helpful for the non-artists among us to create some entertainment.

I'm not saying this particular content is my taste, but I very much appreciate that AI allows everyone to create. Art should be for everyone.

I do believe he wanted it, but he was unwilling to use his position as POTUS to make it happen.
November 30, 2025 at 7:09 PM
Surely it is higher than that? It would be pretty strange to be a Senator with less than $1 million. Most non-millionaires have to go to work.

They're saying its the best health care plan they ever saw. Nobody thought it could be done.

Details in two weeks.

In what twisted worldview can they even conceive of a US oil company touching Venezuelan oil assets after their fever-dream US military conquest of the country.

Anyone associated with the Trump regime is going to be an internation pariah in a few years. CEOs know that. They won't suicide for you.
