Voting for no candidate is effectively a no vote. It says to both parties that you feel neither of them represent you and they should change to get your vote.
That's why it's healthy for democracy. Voting for the least awful candidate tells the parties that you're ok with awful candidates.

I'd vote for a turkey leg over Donald trump, but that doesn't mean I'm thrilled by the turkey leg's policies.
