this is really cool actually!! now you can try migrating to a third-party PDS (like ours :3) and if you don't like it there - come back to your previous bluesky-hosted PDS!

hey and this is absolutely unrelated but did you know that japan has extremely permissive social media laws (that even then basically only apply to platform operators with 10M users or more) with no plans to change that any time soon? haha

oh and we also have a publicly-accessible S3 bucket with nightly exports of all accounts so in case we go down you will still be able to get your data (for at least a month) and move somewhere else

worst case scenario (like, an earthquake or smth) - the backup gets rolled out onto a VPS and we’re back
witchcraft.systems
in my defense, it’s a synology on a UPS, with two redundant network connections (fiber and 5G), nightly backups, and a backup instance ready to be deployed if something happens to the main one

The coven has updated the migration guide over at the git.witchcraft.systems/scientific-w... for all of you suffering from the PLC token Timeout curse

planning to do some network restructuring later today, the PDS will be switched over to the backup uplink until it's over

might experience a small blip when changing the networks, and slightly worse performance while on the backup connection, but otherwise it should be ok

will reply here when done

Our PDS is physically located in Tokyo, so if your client (like deer.social) doesn't tell the AppView you're somewhere else - thanks to service proxying, the best guess at where you're at, from the AppView's perspective, could only be Tokyo (from the IP address of the PDS).

Just had a voltage drop in the circuit powering the PDS, the UPS kicked in, and it seems to have gone back to normal now, but just in case it drops again - assume the possibility of unexpected downtime in the following couple of hours
