That is some impressive ingenuity. Also, hooray for spite once again being an excellent motivator!

A forever nap?

Not scifi, but I know of a visual novel series that blends fantasy and mystery really well, and gives readers clues to solve the mystery while also taking full advantage of red herrings and unreliable narrators. It’s one of my favorite stories of all time: Umineko When They Cry.
