My read was that vampirism was a metaphor for colonialism/ cultural appropriation and assimilation (into white American culture, granted) that's why it's important that Remmick is Irish since they were also victims of colonialism.

Is there a better overview of human history for a general audience?
I started reading Dawn of Everything but didn't have enough pre-history knowledge, so I read Sapiens first and it helped before moving on to the more academic stuff
