Ralph asked as Barry turned back to look out the doors and the parking lot beyond.
'...maybe don't say anything while we wait. I'll give you a ride and I'll bring the car up so you don't get wet. But let's... not talk for a few minutes.'

Barry reached out for the door. Ralph grabbed his extended wrist, not hard, just enough to stop his movement. Barry turned his head toward the other boy. Something in Ralph's eyes shifted.
'Look,' his voice was softer now. 'I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...'
He leaned closer to Barry; as he spoke,Barry

'Really?' Ralph tilted his head in Barry's peripheral vision. Something about the move reminded the model-painter of Han Solo.

'Why's that?' the attitude he conveyed did not change; he seemed somewhat flabbergasted that Barry was reacting so neutrally.
'Because I don't know if I even like you,' Barry said plainly, shifting on his toes slightly. The rain was letting up just a little

'Umm... it wasn't." But there was a lilt at the end of his sentence, a fragment of doubt, even though his confident demeanor had not changed at all.
