I guess I've missed your point then. Your other examples fit the bill but each* Reacher book/TV series is a self contained story. No sequel or cliff hanger in any of them.
*Yes there are 4 books that are set in the same time sequence but they have not been filmed.

Each season of Reacher is based on a book. There are about 20 books so far so perhaps not the best example to use.
