Why must I lose to this idiot?

Post mainly about chess, sometimes serious, often slightly silly. Around 2000 FIDE.
(Alongside Grandmaster Jonathan Penrose - quite an accomplished family all round!)

But Roger is one of his sons!

Same Roger Penrose. Also his brother Jonathan was one of the world’s strongest chess players in the 60s and 70s

Same Penrose family behind both! (Lionel and Roger)

Sounds interesting but not immediately useful?

I haven’t used Chessbase for maybe 15 years? I don’t remember it hallucinating much last time I used it.

I feel like I could have got there - perhaps it’s with hindsight knowing the evaluation but it’s not all that messy for White (plus it’s not even a sacrifice in material terms)

Nxh5 isn’t quite risk-free, the knight isn’t perfectly positioned and the h-file might end up being opened. Qxh5 is definitely the move you want to play as White if you can.

I’m a bit above 2000 and I feel like I should have been able to evaluate the position after Nxe6 Rxh5 Nxg7 and Nxh5 as at least clearly better for White (you get a lot of material for the queen, plus Black’s remaining pieces aren’t well positioned).

There are only 9 people alive today who have been alive for more than a million hours.
