Nice pun. I’m pretty sure the Coventry Canal was never owned by the railways.
I’d say the telegraphs were there for the many mines and quarries around this area and along the route as well as the small villages and the canal company itself.

We met an elderly lady here a few years back who’d been on the working boats. Brought us down an old photo with her dressed in a more traditional manner. Was fascinating to talk too.
