It’s time to make selections for crimson clover breeding. No joke, I’m fitting a Multitrait pedigree-enabled mixed-model in the field to do it! Genomic relationships needed.

Pink crimson clover families are totally rad!

Over 700 Crimson Clover plants but it’s time for culling selection. We are developing the resources and methods to use genomic selection at this point, but for now it’s pedigree + mixed models on breeder (my) Vigor scores.

Loving this red-to-pink flowered family is early and big! #plant-breeding

Out in my crimson clover breeding nursery, standing up for science! We are developing better cover crops that protect and improve the soil when cash crops like corn and cotton aren’t growing. Help secure a sustainable, nutritious food supply. #standupforsciemce2025

Utterly unacceptable, unscientific and hopefully illegal!
"In an unprecedented move, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) has begun mass terminations of research grants that fund active scientific projects because they no longer meet 'agency priorities'"

Exclusive: NIH to terminate hundreds of active research grants
Studies that touch on LGBT+ health, gender identity and DEI in the biomedical workforce could be terminated, according to documents obtained by Nature.

The students and early career scientists in essentially all fields and industries are those hurting the most. These aren’t folks making enormous salaries nor are they bureaucrats. These ARE working people AND our future. Their crime, trying to live the American Dream.
Another article detailing anxiety among young researchers. Future careers are at stake with the US funding cuts, and talented young researchers are already being driven to pursue opportunities abroad.

Postdocs and PhD students hit hard by Trump’s crackdown on science
As US federal grants remain frozen and budget cuts loom, anxiety and fear grip early-career researchers.
