I think for me it'll be like Harry Potter. The longer it was since I read the books the more and more I would enjoy the movies. I imagine LotR fans felt the same.

Thats fair, i may rant but thats on me. My main point though is "closest season adaptation" is a STRETCH. After the changes they've made previous seasons, coupled with the changes made this upcoming season, it is unlikely to be nearly as close as season 1 as each season deviates further and further

Not to mention their inept handling of Loials character. He was a friend of the group, not someone annoying hanger on that is constantly ignored like they portray in the show.
